Alright, sweetheart.
What’s this about acting the victim,
Again?
Your dress is stained, my dear,
And your hair a rat’s nest.
He says,
We will wax this wood,
And Green Grass will Grow,
And all will be amazed;
They will be saved!
They fit me into a mould
and bind me with intangible girdles,
a tiny bit I stray from the mould.
So I'm a bad woman.
My dreams weigh less,
my hopes even lesser.
All my wings are sweetly killed ,
At age 12 I started my period.
I was told “welcome to womanhood”.
At age 14 I worked at a pizza place.
A 50 year old man came in and asked if he could order me.
Statue
Pure and white
Immortal in her fright
Carved by a man
Defiled by one too
The horror of a woman
Is multiplied when considering
His manipulation
Sleep around player.
Don’t be a pussy.
Grab her by the pussy.
My legs are shut,
Crossed,
And locked with my chastity belt.
Dear young women,
One day, you'll have your hair pulled by a boy and
You'll hear your grandpa tell you he just has a crush on you,
That he's just a boy, so what else could you expect?
Extraordinary
Picture a first generation girl.
Her parents, never finished high school.
Her older brother, spent the first 8 years of his life without seeing his father
They say that love always wins,
but sometimes I can't be sure.
I want to believe the world can be a safe place for me,
but when I'm downtown for open mic, it's always:
Check your skirt length.
Internal cries enveloped through the wind
Dahlias dancing to the whistling river
The horizon is overtaken by mountains
And I stand here a simple weed
Once upon a time, there were three little pigs
They were female, with legs like twigs
They disobeyed the social construct
Sexism: from their lives it was plucked
Once upon a time
When knights in armor shined
There waited a young princess
Who had many hobbies and interests
Yet at the very thought of marriage, she felt herself grow distant
What is a princess?
What does she think of?
Does her mind race about the worlds beyond her,
does she wonder what the world has in store for her outside of her comfort?
What is a princess?
I think I am strong
Because I said I could be
Because I have a 4.388 GPA
Because I come from a loving home
Because I hold a national title
Because I work hard
Because I want to be
Feminism isn´t just equality
with men, politics, or the economy
Feminism is how
we as women
All treat eachother
Cause when we´re mean
It gets hella scary
Feminism starts with eachother
At age 5 I heard that 'boys will be boys'
I learned that boys had more privileges than I because they were luckily born into it
At age 10 my mother told me to act proper, say your please and thank you's, don't speak out
“Skies are blue inside of you” 90
“Don’t you wish you were free, Lenina?” 91
Don't wear an upside down smile
No matter what your life is worth while
Take it from me, I lost my daddy
But I refuse to let that terminate me
Yes I miss him
Yes it hurts
Freedom, what a word.
It is so obsorb.
Freedom in a filter, perhaps so.
Some however, will not let the filter go.
Afraid to let the scars show,
Afraid to be less then pro.
attention, affection,
hugs so tight!
He's invincible-
brighter than the stars at night.
a doctor, an astronaut,
Singer in a band,
books in his mind
are a future in his hand
When a man gives his opinion, he’s a man
When a woman givers her opinion, she’s a bitch.
It’s hard out here for a bitch
In a place where for every man’s dollar women make 78 cents
In 2013people are still slavesslaves to the patriarchy
black boys getting friskedinnocentjust on the streetand they call it"pre-emptive"
Dreaming is what got me here.
I used to dream that all the power would be in my hands,
but here I am pressed against the ceiling
this cement ceiling.
You fed me words
that made me hunger,
Dear Son,
Recognize your power, strength, and courage.
You have the drive and the power to achieve great things.
And then there is power ascribed to you.
The patriarchy
Self-congratulatory
of its own bias.
The working women
Polishing her glass ceiling
weeps for potential.
The conservatives
attack her choice as murder
But her life counts too.
