On May 24, 2022 a mass shooting occurred at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. A total of nineteen students and two teachers were killed by an 18-year-old gunman. This massacre has sparked an important conversation about gun control in the United States. In 2022 alone, there have been more than two hundred mass shootings (defined as having a casualty of four or more people) in the nation. Gun laws vary by state, so there are no universal policies about required background checks, mental health evaluations, or permits to carry a concealed weapon. It has been proven that places with strict gun laws have fewer gun-related deaths. Without change to United States gun laws, this pattern of tragedy and violence will likely continue.
