Our Song(s)

When I fell in love the first time,

She felt the same pain as me,

I shared with her a song

One that we listened to together

Its lyrics always soothed us

When hard times arose

It told her

“I will stand by you,

I will help you through,

When you’ve done all you can do

And you can’t cope.

I will dry your eyes,

I will fight your fight

I will hold you tight,

And I won’t let go…”

When I first played it for her,

She cried in my arms,

I held her close and whispered

“You know I won’t let go”

When she had to leave,

She played it back for me,

But this time I heard

“It hurts my heart,

To see you cry.

I know it’s dark,

This part of life.

It finds us all,

And we’re too small

To stop the rain”

We didn’t get a chance to say goodbye

And my heart broke in half

The song became a curse,

I couldn’t listen to it

For fear of breaking down.

I met another girl

And with her came a new song

I played it for her

While I walked her home

She heard

“Without you,

I feel broke,

Like I’m half,

Of a whole.

Without you,

I’ve got no,

Hand to hold.

Without you,

I feel torn,

Like a sail in a storm.

Without you,

I’m just a sad song…”

She loved the song

And I loved her.

When she left

We also didn’t get to say goodbye

I’m stuck in an infinite loop.

I give love

And I give a song,

But then I lose it all

And now I’m just a sad song.
