For My Mother

In my darkest moment,

You were there to cradle me

Somehow you became my opponent

Preventing me from being free

You and I together

Perpetuated my pain

The way dark and stormy weather

Always gives way to rain

It was the only way you knew how to save me

And I wish we had known it would fail

Finally I had to plea

For you to leave me here, frail

Distance was what I needed

Once I got it, my trust was renewed

Try ever so hard we did

Thus now I can conclude

I know not to be dependent

For learning when you made it worse

Was for us, quite transcendent

and now we've achieved the converse
