Honest Deception

Like many summer months in bloom,
promising life, light, love
When the sun would hug you in its warmth
and caress your hopes with gentle rays
of bright light and subtle praise

And in this summer love you place your trust
you place your dreams because you must
You believe the summer warmth to stay
to lead you, love you, not lead you astray

The autumn keeps this sweet promise at hand
though not so strong as you can understand
The cherished rays of sunshine leave
and in their absence are you deceived

And then the cold comes with its chilling force
from some long lost deceitful source
Summer warmth no longer comforts you
no longer holds you in love so true

Therefore promises in which you once held trust
are long gone with one single cold gust
