To Be Strong

Location

Tearful eyes. / Burning throat. / Stiffled cries, / So they don't know, / I scream inside. / I miss my home. / On my outside, / You'd never know. / I'm tired of sadness. / I'm tired of lies. / I'm tired of secrets, / That everyone hides. / But I must stay strong. / I must stand straight. / I must be the leader, / Who carries the weight. / So I scream inside, / So no one knows. / I scream inside, / So I don't blow.

The following lines were my favorite part of the poem: "But I must stay strong. / I must stand straight. / I must be the leader, / Who carries the weight." This was the one point in the poem that the speaker decides to keep pushing on because there are others that depend on them. That one responsibility is what really holds them together at this point. They still have something to fight for.
