For the Wellbeing of My Body

I eat for the wellbeing of my body
For my blood pressure
And my heart palpitations
And my hyperinsulinemia (whatever that means).
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
For my teeth
And my bones
And my hair.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Despite the urge
To purge
And the aversion
From food.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
For its past
And its present
And its future.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Because I know
That bones
Are not beautiful.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Because I don't want the stares
And the whispers
About how skinny I've gotten,
Even though
I used to love them.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
For those people who won't
For those who will
And for those who can't.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Despite the falling feeling
That I will
I will
I will
Gain weight.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Despite the thoughts
That rule my mind
That I don't deserve it.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Because I see those kids
Starving
Like I used to
But who don't have a choice.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Because I don't miss
The puking
And the running
And the laxatives.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Because I know
That my parents
Love me.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Because the preacher tells me
That God
Made me in His image.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Because I know
That there are others
Who aren't as strong
As me.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Because
I admit
I like food.
I eat for the wellbeing of my body
Because I know
That my life
Depends on it.
