Hello, Darkness

In a world of darkness,

I am always told that the light will prevail.

Through moments of uncertainty,

What guides you will never fail.

Although when that darkness takes my hand,

and consumes me until my last breath;

It is a feeling only some would understand.

It is not Death,

Yet it shows no mercy.

Constantly berating you,

In a shit-fueled fury.

You pray it never gets put on the jury.

To the trial of eternal happiness,

You hope you’ve won.

Your time here is not done.

Escape seems futile,

It won’t dare to leave without refusal.

Perhaps we can be friends then,

In hopes it won’t come again.

Yet there it is,

Knocking on my front door a quarter past ten.

And I let it in.

Hello, again.
