Dear Daddy

Dear Daddy,

When will you be home?

These walls, they feel so empty

In my house, I feel so alone.

Here, my sadness drenches me;

It’s been a year of intense growth

While I learn to live without you.

But this numbness is in my toes-

This emptiness, I wish you knew

It continues to grow.

Missing you comes in waves

Tonight I feel like I’m drowning.

Daddy,

When will I see you again?

This is tearing me apart

When will this separation end?

Daddy, USMC broke my heart.

They took the man I once knew

And never will he come back

When did you become so unglued?

I never knew they’d take you like that.

I know you fought harder-

You’ll be home soon,

Your loving daughter.
