Daddy, do you remember when I was young and I'd run to you with all my problems?

You always promised me that you'd do anything to make me happy,

You didn't want to raise your children the way you were raised.

But now I'm sitting here reading your texts about how you can't cosign for my loans anymore.

You told me you'd do anything to help me accomplish my dreams,

You always promised me that you'd do anything to make me happy,

You didn't want to raise your children the way you were raised.

I sit here and I pray that if I make it through another night of hate and self loathing

that if I ever have kids I'll never raised them like you raised me,

You filled me full of false hope, you made me believe I could rule the world.

You always promised me that you'd do anything to make me happy,

You didn't want to raise your children the way you were raised.

I hope that I never make my child feel worthless or forgetten.

I never want to see them shead a tear because they can't afford college.

I never want to make them face the cold world alone.

I promise myself I'll do anything to make myself happy,

I never want to raise my children the way I was raised.

Please don't let history repeat itself.
