Open Letter to Dad
Dear Dad, Hey, it’s been a while, I didn’t really expect you to be gone so soon. How are you doing up there? I know how picky you are, so I can’t assume. Things haven’t been the best since you left, But we are getting by. My coping isn’t the healthiest thing; Never healing, no matter how hard I try. I’ve been all over the country, From New York to New Orleans. I’ve had you every step of the way, By a different type of means. Mom hasn’t moved on, It’s unlikely she ever will. It’s really affected her the most, You know she blames herself still? What were you thinking about? The night that you left us. You told me that you always had my back, I had so much trust. So much you have missed, Because the life that you took. Five handsome young grandsons; And one beautiful granddaughter named Brooke. It’s similar to dark chocolate in a way, So bittersweet. You’ll always be with me, wherever I go. Until the next time we can meet, Dad. Love, Derek Dobbs
