Word After Word

Word after word

drawn, spilled and unheard.

they till and then fill

The loose soil with skill.

Threw the dirt in the well

and wished to be learned.

Fell like a bird

drew the pen with the sword

dug out a den just past the glen

but fell short of when

and of women and men

asked all that they yearned.
