We live in a world where the American dream is a thing that is yearned,
Where liberty is free and opportunity awaits around every turn.
We live in a world where we are given every right to speak what is our hearts,
And to dream of a reality to fit to the stars.
We created a world for generations to come,
But what happens when that world no longer becomes one.
We are taught that diversity will enrich our cultures,
That education will make us smarter,
Medicine will make us stronger,
And that God is the only power.
But what if the tables were turned,
And our differences were the things that made us turn on each other,
What if education no longer had high standards,
Medicine was used to destroy our characters,
And what if God is not the only power?
We created a world where we abuse our freedom to justify our actions,
Where we use authority instead of our words to settle our altercations.
We created a world that made others feel inferior to one another,
Where we suddenly became one of the most corrupt countries ever.
America used to be number one,
With our economy up and poverty down.
We loved thy neighbor and fought with morals,
We advanced our minds and understood control.
We had a world where we were a part of something bigger,
Instead we are now hidden under the lesser.
What happened to “united we stand?”
To “one nation, indivisible, and justice for all?”
We were this great nation that fell prey to greed and power,
A place where people were proud to call home.
Now we lie in the blood of our own suffering mixed with all the lives we have taken,
Now we lie in a dress of sorrows for all of our sins we have fashioned.
We can save ourselves from a life a damnation,
But only if we open our minds and close our mouths and listen to every suggestion.
We can save ourselves from losing our humanity,
But only if we remember to care for all those in society.
