What do you want to be?

Such a young age

they begin to ask

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Adults want to see

how their society will be shaped.

We're five

we want to be our parents

and our heros.

As we grow up

our chances of achieving our dreams

diminish

our chances

smaller.

The adults who told us we could be anything

tell us how impractical we are.

If I could change anything

I would change our priorities.

Stop asking kids what they want to be when they grow up

and start asking them who they want to be

because it won't be a dream crusher

like you.
