It all starts with the spotlight on me
My heart as if to burst
Hand clinched to tight my forearms fatigue
Inhaling deep for a second of relief

And then Im off
Running, counting, counting and running
And then I spot my target
And then my target spots me
My arms jolt up and there is no turning back
Taking flight
I hold on for dear life as I twist and contort through the air
I’m up and time stands still
Breath held in
Muscles tensed
And then I land on the foam mat for the millionth time and walk off.

a great poem for pole vualt . this is how i feel everytime they call me up
