Sometimes 
Sometimes it takes a slap in the face
sometimes it takes "ultimate trauma"
sometimes it takes the unthinkable
to make you realize 
what the hell are you doing?
and sometimes it takes a sister
and sometimes it takes a good friend
and sometimes it it takes just some damn good pancakes
for the world to spin again
and sometimes you manage for days 
for weeks 
for months
without knowing the truth
and sometimes you lose yourself 
(you KNOW you put it somewhere with that truth!)
and sometimes you need to read your own words
poems from years' past
because it's the love and loss within those lines
that remind you of the things that last
