Realization

She looks at the woman’s familiar face
The one that has been the same every day for eighteen years
New creases appear that weren’t there before
When did she get so old?
Just yesterday they were playing, laughing,
Everything was easier

The older woman looks back at her younger carbon copy
She remembers the home videos
The summers at the pool, the language that only they spoke,
The times she saved the girl from monsters
She can’t be done yet
When did she get so old?
