Painful Christmas

This holiday is hollow,

These cheery ones are lost.

Everyone is happy,

It seems

Everyone

But me.

I always feel alone,

But this holiday is worse.

Many years ago,

I had the greatest friend.

She took away the lonely,

Then gave it back again.

I began to hate this holiday,

With its frozen fractured fingers,

But then another came around,

And she fixed all of my problems.

She made the holiday warm again,

Then left and froze my heart.

Now I sit around this lonely tree,

Pain and loneliness my only company.

I cry out:

“How did this happen?”

Pain whispers back

“The entire world hates you!”

And loneliness says

“You’ll never be loved again!”

And while I sit and mourn,

I see that Christmas is forlorn.
