Now You're Immortal

This day in particular

Was really quite gray

The guy next to me sighed

Hey, you okay?

I replied that I was fine

I gesured him to go away

Yet, he wiped the tears from my eyes

And whispered

Do you mind if I stay?

I denied, but he did

Of course I wouldn't believe

That he died on that tree

And he did it for me

I would only know what was seen

Until he changed my mind

He told me love was blind

And helped me back on my feet

I still insisted that he don't

But he replied by telling me

That he would only leave me if I died

And in that case, I won't.

I wrote this poem after a weird experience. I never considered myself as a religious person, but I can never deny the realness of the expereince I had when I wrote this poem. I had been grieving for a while, because my uncle, a drug addict, committed suicide. I was mad at the world, mad at myself, and mad at a God that I never even believed in to begin with. I guess that God was able to reach me at my most vulnerable state, and that's when this poem happened. I have a hard time explaining this to people, because the experience was too intense to put into words. The best word I can use to describe it is love.
