I Know Why The Caged Me Gleams

A free me breathes in the air
As I spread my wings
As I sing and as I scream

For joy
No less
I put my wings
To the test

And fly. And soar.
And go through
The open door

The caged me sings with a soulful cry
As I soar and think My, Oh My
What a wonderful life...

My life, sing-song like,
Has there ever been a pause?
Could I ever take a breath
As the song bellows out of my chest?

The free me swings amongst the trees
I roam above the seas
I feel the breeze
Stings against my luscious wings

I stop and stand still
Staring across the majestic hill.
The thrill
My life is out of my will…

I jump up once more
Soar through the sky
My feet never touch the floor
I have never felt so alive.

The caged me sings with a soulful cry
As I soar and think My, Oh My
What a wonderful life...
