Black is Free and Powerful

Black, I am Black

We are women

We are recognized

The pain is gone

God helped us regain our confidence and strength

We faced our daily struggles

We wrote

We read

We were needed

We conquered

We succeeded

We started to make a change

We used to be blamed

We used to be chained

We became hopeful

Then, nothing came from something

We were nothing

We were neglected, besides the people of our own kind

We were looked down upon by whites

We were not worth anything in the white man's eyes

We are taught to follow orders

We are taught that we came from nothing

We were not allowed to read

We were not allowed to fight back

We were not allowed to speak up

All I know is one thing

Black, I am black
