Woman, Girl – Lift up!
For far too long your shoulders
have bent forward from the weight of
the despair of injustice, inequality,
mistreatment, ignorance,
devalue, degradation and disregard.
Like summer cockroaches
they come out hot & defiant -
scattering swiftly in all directions.
Breaking free
from decency
We're living a silent violence Locked on everyone else's frustrations Afraid of climbing our own mountainsWe find peace in this violation We can't breath pure airIt stinks everywhere
A forbidden word
A disgraceful word
But an important word
We all love to forget
We all love to push aside
But we must make room for
self-respect
Everytime I ask a question you got a different story.
I have no idea why I mess with dudes like you who just so daggone corny.
You won't find me wasting my time tryna make you change,
Self respect is the key to loving yourself
It means to not only be truthful
But to be confident
To exceed the expectations of your nobles
Mmm, child.
Walking around with your business all out in the street, for what?
One wrong move and we'll all be able to see up ya...girl.
Everyone wants me to change
never pleased
this or that
as long as I'm not me
Whether it's my hair
or my grades
my weight
or my face
Everyone wants me to change
But I won't
Look at meSilky, milky whiteBlackRedYellowIt doesn’t matterBecause I have skin that I enjoyAnd that you enjoyAnd beneath that skinI have so much to offer
Respect
(Dedicated to all rape victims)
He was there standing before me
In my hand was an apple and cup of tea
“Who Am I?!” You Ask.
I’ll tell you who I am!
I am Silvia
She who cannot be tamed
Portraying mischievous deeds
Doing good when no one sees
Our heritage
From our skin to our inner most features,
We have the deepest roots.
From the food we eat to the souls who cook it.
From the songs we sing,
To the music we dance to.
