“Just carry a knife,
“Learn some self-defense,
that way you can defend yourself in the face of danger.”
What’s the face of danger then?
Why can I never find words on my tongue?
They lay curled up in my palms instead,
leaking into the ink of pens or
clutched in fists like painkillers or sleeping pills.
The voice in my head constructed
Growing up as a young girl with yellow-toned skin,
It was hard for me to find role models I could relate to.
Luckily for me, I stumbled upon Bruce Lee.
