queer rights

Once upon a time, queerness was considered a crime
Rainbows and queer knowledge was forbidden
However, no one saw what was coming at the time
A queer teen did not expect what was about to be given
America the free, America the brave
America where I am looked down upon for the cadence of my name
America where my people are slaughtered in the streets
America where murderers with a badge walk free
—
again
i see hate, violent suggestion
that we are less
less pure, less whole
—
and we aren't whole
a gaping wound in a community
we want closure
for lives lost
