Your Love (Scholarship Slam)

Location

So many people tell me that love isn't as important as I think.

What do they know about the love that filled my life's missing link?

Your love has saved me, in more ways than one.

I was broken, trying to be someone that wasn't really me.

My broken heart was telling me that acting this way would set me free.

Your love has shown me that being myself is greater than pretending.

I hated the mirror, but most of all the picture in it.

The imperfect girl staring back at me made me want to spit.

Your love taught me to love myself, before anyone else.

So many times, I cried  at the mistakes I'd made,

But you put your arms around me, and talked to me gently, until the pain would fade.

Your love taught me that my mistakes are lessons to learn from, not pain to torture myself with.

I laugh now, at the thought of pretending, and being so sad.

Because to be that upset at life is mad.

Your love taught me to stop over thinking, and to enjoy the life I've been given.

Your love taught me realism.

Your love taught me acceptance.

Your love taught me perspective.

Your love taught me values.

And for this, I pity those who tell me that love is not important.
