When Sand Speaks
I am not given much notice.
People trod on me and shape me
Into the outline of their feet.
They sift their fingers through my parts.
As quickly as they breathe in the peace and comfort that I bring,
They also quickly exhale and forget upon the transition to concrete.
I am sand.
I am the ever-present unnoticed grain
That gets caught in your clothes and between your toes.
The bothersome piece of nature that gets too hot
And burns or gets too clingy and yearns for affection.
Find me in, between, under your hair, lashes, nails.
I am timeless.
I sat next to the sea
And accompanied all that was and all that will be.
And though I seem lonesome - silent and still -
I am never truly alone.
Press me and find that I turn into glass,
Hard to the touch and cutting around the edges.
Yet I'm still breakable.
Sticks and stones can hurt me, yes,
But words do hurt as well. Scream at me loud enough and you may just make me
Shatter.
I am not Superwoman.
I am not Superman.
I have emotion.
And though I may behave or seem strong,
Sometimes, I let you get to me. Sometimes I crack.
Sometimes the sand falls through the glass.
And then I remember that in His hands I am a force of nature.
In His hands I can scorch any negative energy
Like a flame with a whip of my tail and
Dry out the devil's tongue 'till he begs for water.
I am sand.
I am not unbreakable, but in His hands, I may as well be.

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." Ephesians 6:10-13 (NIV).
Persist on, Little One.
