What Would I Change

A most interesting question if I’ve ever heard one.
What would I do?  What needs to be done?
If I had an infinite amount of power over one thing,
What would I base my change on?  To what would I cling?

Present or past?  Here or there?  To whom and why?
These questions need to be answered before I even try.
After I change it, will it turn back over time?
Would the impact of my choice diminish or climb?

If I could only choose from the present place,
I’d change the poverty and hunger for the human race.
Picking just one, I’d choose to destroy hunger.
There’d be food for all, no need to go a’ plunder.

If I could go back in time, there’d be much to do.
There’d be the crusades and the Holocaust too.
So many disasters and evil that could have been changed.
Humans’ thoughts and actions could have been rearranged.

Alter one, the others still won’t change their outcome.
Instead of changing a part, a difference of a small sum,
I’d like to change the future, the path we’re headed.
The evil we think and do that is making our lives shredded.

I’d give those here the One thing to seek after.
This would bring great hope, joy, peace, love and laughter.
Open their eyes to see there is more for them.
To find there is Someone who loves, amen?
