We are not perfect.

We are rough drafts,

a template for future experiences.

We can not promise love,

safety,

sometimes not even basic needs.

We are who we are.

We are dreamers,

artists,

scientists,

atheletes, 

students.

We all have roles

that change through our lives.

We are not our skin.

We are not our background.

We are not the titles we have been given.

Our futures are not dependent on our birthplace,

parents,

mistakes,

education.

We are more than that.

We are who we say we are.

We are the ones who decide what we want to do.

We will learn from our mistakes,

will perservere through our troubles,

will make something out of nothing and make it amazing.

We are engineers,

innovators,

teachers.

We are the future.

We stare forward and hurdle obstacles. 

We do not use our excuses to keep us from improving.

We take our excuses,

break them down,

and continue on our path to success.

We are determined.

We will make a difference

in our homes,

in our communities,

in our world.

We are the only ones with the power to change.
