Before Us

The expectations are set,

before we even come into the world.

-

We see things as a threat,

before we know what flag they hold.

-

We refuse to accept everyone,

before we get to know them.

-

Our load is a hefty ton,

before we’ve grown like a stem.

-

We are expected to fight a war,

before we can decide if it’s right.

-

We are sent out on a tour,

before we know how to fight.

-

We are put into a situation,

before we can even fuss.

-

We were looked down on by the nation,

before there was even us.
