Ups&Downs: Nick's Psalm

Life doesn’t always end up the way we plan,

But God directs it so I can become a man.

If life was easy

It wouldn’t seem rewarding

Because Earth can seem like hell,

But I have to shrug it off

Because for the time being it’s where I dwell.

Lord hear my cry

My spirit isn’t dead but its weak,

I can’t even cry myself to sleep,

Its been like this for weeks.

I know I’m not Daniel,

But I’ll start from the den if I have to.

No one starts from the summit.

No matter who you are or what you have.

Everyone starts from somewhere,

But in reality nobody cares.

I’m just glad I can start from here,

I don’t have a spirit of fear.

It’s been a while since I’ve last seen my mom.

Despite all of this mess

I’ve managed to stay calm.

I have to count my blessings though.

I’m glad to say I have a dad

Because without him I would’ve been lost

And never found.

And ever since day 1 he says I’m college bound

Where the Trojans march

That’s the place for me to be.

I may still be in the den,

But it doesn’t mean I don’t see the light.

Just one bad day doesn’t make a bad life,

And just one mistake

Doesn’t make me a failure.

If my mom was here,

She would be proud.

Proud that I never gave up on life,

Proud that despite the judge’s decision,

I’ve gained wisdom.

I’m still in the den,

But if Daniel can do it than I can.

Like my name I’m the people’s victory.

If not already I’ll live up to my name.

Although my life will never be the same.

These are my ups and downs,

I’ve learned to turn my frowns upside down

Life is full of questions like

What next and what now

Whatever it takes

Just like Daniel

I’ll receive my crown.
