icarus falls

someone is there

to break his fall

apollo couldn't

sit back and watch

this time

he saw from the corner

of his eye

icarus tripping

down the bleachers

at the football game

his father always

told him to watch

his step

but it's hard to focus

on the stairs when

there is a shining star 

in front of him

he flew too close 

to the sun

but this time

the sun caught him

and held his close

breathing with relief

his wings never took off

and this time

apollo wouldn't let go
