Taller

Your sad face
doesn’t erase my picture from the front page
of the newspaper
I may not be better than you
But I’ve made a decent shot
And hit the bulls eye
I’m ready for the world now
And not because you’re here
But maybe because you’re gone
So I’ll stand taller
(And have better hair)
And shout at the clouds
(With better clothes)

While great music plays
I can ignore the scars
Because I can breathe
In all the space you’ve left

And even if I love you
I don’t need to see you
Because I’ve done this all on my own

Through sunshine and snowfall
I am my own best friend
That’s what matters
The trail up the mountainside
Is one I must walk alone
The things I felt that afternoon
I felt only for myself
