Surprised

So you thought I wouldn’t notice and under the circumstance I almost didn’t. Remote from my problems, you hide with your perfectly sealed lips, relying solely on your vision. I waited for your comfort as you sat wide-eyed and watched our separate lives crumble, all the while knowing that eventually, these hard times would be like all the other grains of sand that would turn, to dust and we’d move on, like as we always have. But still I thought you would have called out to me, listened to see if I was still breathing. So I asked the question of why, which only proved me right. And though I should feel that you’ve let me down, I’m really just surprised.
