Summer Tease

I catch you summer breeze and suddenly time stops,

A moment of appreciation sets in.

It seems you wait until I have forgotten your cool touch.

I can't help but feel a smile begin.

A runner in a race will not stop running,

Until they have crossed the finish line.

Likewise my breeze, will not show her face,

Until my temperature begins to climb.

Oh sweet breeze, you mistreat me so,

I only ask for such minute requests.

But you're a free-spirit, you come and you go,

In my company, such little time you invest.

Sometimes we dance together, a sadly short routine,

An obvious cliff-hanger of sorts.

It stops and it goes and it'll pause right between,

Until her time's up and the routine, she aborts.

You pass right behind me and tap me on the shoulder as you leave,

I'm left with nothing but a missed opportunity.

Sometimes you sneak by, unnoticed, I do believe,

You're like a vaccine in which I've already built my immunity.
