Soe True

I can tell you many things about myself,

But will they be true?

Will they truly tell you who I really am?

I can give you the truth and I can lie,

Either way you may never know who I really am.

There is always a mask,

There is always a filter,

Only a few have seen me unmasked,

But even fewer have stayed once they saw,

Those that have are the people I live for.

They see more than what others see,

They see what’s underneath,

They know what I think and accept me for me,

They get me,

They get the uncensored version.

What others see is different,

But they still see me,

They see the thumbnail,

Because I’m too afraid to show the entire picture,

I’m scared they won’t accept me.

What they see is my mask,

They see the friend,

They see the dancer,

They see the calm and collected,

They see the tip of the iceberg.

Those that unmask me see all of the above,

But they see all of what’s below as well,

They see the hopeless romantic,

They see the crazed lunatic,

They see the restless.

Many know my love for TV,

But only a few know the reason for it,

It is my virtual reality,

My salvation,

My utopia.

What they see is real,

What they see is all of me,

I don’t keep myself chained,

I don’t have to be afraid to let loose,

I show them all I have to offer.

For that is the highest form of respect I can give,

And their acceptance is the highest respect I can receive,

So my question for everyone is simple,

Will I need to keep my mask on?

Or will I show you what lies underneath?
