So You Call Yourself a Patriot

So you call yourself a patriot?

One who supports this dreaded land?

You find yourself proud of this

Of all we have destroyed?

Understand what we are missing, and maybe you’ll rethink (the things you’ve said and done.)

Can you honestly say

All you stand for is all you should?

Laugh along

Listen to none, reason doesn’t apply to you

You won’t stand a chance

Once you learn and

Undergo redemption

Respect authority

Stand tall and proud

Everything’s as it should be (have fun convincing me...)

Little do you know, though

Failure is on your tail

Always time does catch up to the ones trying to slip through

Patriots are not

All that they used to be

The land of the free is not

Really, truly free

Idiots, please listen up

Out loud we cry for help, the

Torment makes us yelp

So you call yourself a patriot?

Denying rights to

Others leads

You to fall behind

One day you’ll see,

Until then maybe

Eventually we will come

Votes will knock you down

Even though you say you know

Never realize the extent (of the pain you “never meant”)

Knowing looks

Not caring for

Overturned lives

We are not the weak

Who do you think

Has fought the most to stay where we are now

Another day, another battle

Together we will overcome

Till then we’ll fade to grey

Hear the noise, white as ice

As we build in volume to

The ones who hold us down

Meaningful is not

Everything to some

Answers will not come alone

No one deserves the pain you

Serve, so rethink the things you hold so high

Do you even know what that means?

Now or never, not

Over is the war between the same

Wonder, wonder, wonder if

It might be over soon

This is what it means to be

Someone who’s brave and bold

Not to turn down anything

One values above all else

These things are nonnegotiable

We the people need equal rights

However we must get them

Anyone who does oppose does not

Truly support the lives of

Youth and other humans

One day they will open

Up their eyes and maybe then

Someone will say

A saving phrase

Yet we are still now waiting

It will not wait

This urgency

It isn’t just a joke

So please, won’t you speak up?

Even if the ones you fight for, have no

Voices of their own

Especially if the ones you fight for are

Restless from the pain

You gain

The power you wield from

Humans who yield

In the face of danger, in the

Name of safety, till they feel they’ve

Gone

You, of all the

Ones who hurt, can start to

Undo it.

Don’t wait until you feel comfortable,

Oppression doesn’t halt.

It’s not what you say,

It is everything you do.
