Small Town Blues from a World Traveler

Location

Broken heart

Lonely soul

Bored mind

Hard to find

A creative escape

A mind's way to encapsulate

A beloved place's flaws

The creative cup's straw

to better sample the iced tea

of "Southern Hospitality."

Few possibilities given

to a mind that is driven:

get married, have kids,

the "American Dream"

of a small town's to wean

any far-reacher

into a Bible-thumping preacher

or breeder

if not a homemaker or wrecker.

It's a sand trap with a steep decline:

it traps the passerby

and gives no chance to fly.

Freedom comes with age

or so I've heard;

here it's a rat race

and losers get burned.
