Scatterthought

What are you going to look for in this text?
What kind of prose or verse will you desire?
Would you seek which of us composes best -
With all the jargon that within us gyres?
Tis true that poetry doeth stir the mind.
(Its arcane rites doeth circulate within.)
But if you look elsewhere, you just might find
A road whereon a new outlook begins;
For words are beautiful when rightly used
But oft I find that this is not the case,
For languages are altered and abused
And stray far from the rules that were their base.
(Bear with me as I strive to make it clear
The purpose of these stanzas I have wrought,
For you may think my writing insincere
But let me now assure you, it is not.)
Too many of us debase what is good
Simply to please those that would wish it so,
Unknowing that these people, if they could,
Would just as quickly be the ones to throw

All else they may deem faulty on a whim
To be swept underfoot by other men,
And driven ‘fore their laughter  by the wind
That none may ever bring them back again.
You see, the base is what holds up the rest,
And when it falls, the rest will topple too.
And that is why maintaining ours is best
Else everything come down on me and you.
So why do we go speaking like we do?
Without a thought of who it will effect?
That we have right to speak, this much is true,
But have we not also free intellect?
For like so long ago, we seek for fights
And do interpret fault where there is none
Spinning our webs of treachery and spite
But catching only self in webs we’ve spun.
Tis better to have loved and lost it’s said,
Then to have never loved and passed away
For we, in hating are already dead…
But those that love, will never go astray.
