Running Amongst the Planets

Oh beautiful, starry night;
This is how I want to die.
Wrapped up in thought
Unaware (of what’s coming)

Oh beautiful, starry night;
This is how I want to die
Distracted, sleeping
Overwhelmed by something greater than me

Oh beautiful, starry night;
I fear choiceless action
I fear the decision was ordained

I use flowery words because they take more effort
My mind works harder and it’s easier to forget
Focused on the miles ahead
Ignoring potholes beneath my feet

I am afraid of what I see as spontaneity
What Providence sees as the next page in my book
The inevitable is not lost on me, but we all pretend to forget to feel better

And it will
Just happen

This poem is about:
Me
