Reflection

Location

You only need to ask.

I would answer if I could.

You rush towards me,

Placing a hand against me.

Your face twists.

‘Am I ugly?’ You ask.

‘No, stunning like stars.’ I want to whisper.

Tears flow like rain.

‘Am I alone?’ You cry.

‘I’m right here.’ I soothe.

There’s a noise and you turn away.

‘Course I’m fine.’ You choke out as a laugh.

‘But you aren’t.’ I sigh as you fix your hair

You force a smile and I smile back.

Perhaps not fine, but you are strong.

You walk away and I’m left behind glass.

You only need to ask.

I wish I could answer.

But I am only your Reflection.
