The Power of Choice

A yes or a no

A smile, a frown

A laugh, a cry

A dance party, a crack den

Life is what you make of it

Make it a crap fest or a never ending festival of celebration

Life is filled choices

Choices

Day in and day out

We make them all the time

It doesn't have to take a village

All you need is ambition, strength, and a whole lot of will power

One choice changed your life

The Butterfly Effect is real

Letting what someone screamed at you as they drove away get to you or,

Letting roll off your back and pray and child in the backseat grows up to knows better

Who you picked as your role model

You starve yourself to look "pretty" or,

You straut your stuff and own it

Being true to you or,

Who they want you to be

Being just a bystander watching it all happen or,

Standing up and saying something

Correcting someone or,

Leaving them an ignoramus

One move, one mark, one saying, one look, one choice

It can make all the difference

We have all that power, day in and day out

For all the amazing things that can be done,

All the bad ones have already been done

For all the hurt you have been given,

There is so much more love you can give

For all your aches and breaks,

There are repairs to be made

Life is made up of choice after choice

Once upon a time our existence was once a choice of some sort

For every up there is a down

But you and I, we have the choice to choose which stands the test of time

You can hold on to the hurt and the pain and all the horrible things that ever happened just so,

You don't forget the sting of it all so that,

Next time you'll be ready for it all and you'll yell in its face and tell it to bring it the hell on!

But what happens next is that you crumple to piece because,

All that hurt and all that pain and all those horrible things bring you down a peg

Day in and day out

Next step, find a new method

Shove it all down to where you are numb to the world,

Numb the news of childern being killed day in and day out,

Numb to all the things poeple say,

Numb all the way up to when a blip pops up and reminds you of all that you locked away

Left again with the sleepless night and all that hurt and all that pain and all those horrible things

Back to square one,

Day in and day out

Time for a new method

Dealing with all the hurt and the pain and all the horrible things that ever happened

You sit with your thoughts and you make one thing clear

I own my body, I own my mind, I own my everything that makes me, me

I am not a slave to no one!

Not to anyone's words!

Not to the standards of society!

Not to anyone's expectations!

Not to the voice in my head telling me I am not good enough!

Not to the hurt! Not to the pain! Not to all the horrible things that ever happened!

Not to any of the horrible things that will happen!

Although the future is untold certain things ring true

My Life. My Choice. My Rules.

The beauty of choice is that I have all the power and no one can do a damn thing about it
