Notes From a Historical Movie Script
Commands can be heard over an old time radio in a foreign language,
German preferably.
Snap to a black and white shot of old Nazi war planes zooming across the sky.
Cut to Dwight Eisenhower commanding the storm of Normandy.
Fade in the sound of our national anthem.
Roll a young man signing up for the draft.
Cut later to the young man with his lady;
There is a small draft card in his hand.
The couple embraces lovingly
Before he turns about-face and leaves to the military truck.
Cut back to the soldier’s lady dabbing her eyes with a hanky.
Tears can be seen dropping from her eyes.
Cut to the young man and his platoon of comrades.
They are fighting over in Berlin.
The man falls with a serious wound.
Cut to his arm falling limp off the bed.
Later, show a little delivery boy with the yellow telegram in hand.
Have him knock two times on the door.
When the young lady opens the door her eyes will tear up.
The little boy will give his condolences.
Cut to the young lady to whom has aged into a fine wise woman of seventy-two.
She is surrounded by her grandchildren and a few small Great-Grandchildren.
Cut to a scene of a graveyard with the young soldier’s stone in main view.
Fade out as the woman places flowers on the stone and backs away.
Roll credits to patriotic music.
