Not Forgotten
Location
I sit beneath the rays of a hot spring afternoon.
I listen to the birds sing, the sound of happiness to their mates.
I watch the children walk home from school, playing tags as they walk by me.
I wait; wait for my mom and dad to come home.
I sit on this old, dirty porch waiting as the night come over me with a chilled and cold air hitting my wet nose.
As the sun rises my belly begins to hurt of hunger, I desire water as it is gold.
I began to wait, wait for my mom and dad to come home.
The cold spring night drives me from the porch, to seek warmth in the family garage next to the mice.
I listen for a car to pull in with my family in it, but I wait, and wait for my mom and dad to come home.
After three days I begin to seek food from others, and food I cannot find.
My body is not the same as it was, I begin to look frail and unapproachable.
I then decide to leave my home and seek food further, but never can finding it.
Always returning home like my mom and dad always told me.
After a week of eating dirt and grass from the yard I see a man approaching me with a long stick with a net attached.
I begin to run but get stuck in his net and brought to his van; I am brought to a new home with food, water, and a warm blanket.
After a pretty woman see’s me I hear her say you’re going to a better place boy!
I took a small bite of food and felt sleepy. I laid on the floor next to my warm blanket allowing my nose touch it.
When I awoke, a pretty human in white was singing to me.
This home was sunny, happy, bright and tons of friends to play with. I was happy to be here.
She said, “You didn’t have a voice, but someone was watching you from a far. Making sure you would not suffer any more. Here we consider everyone family and you can eat and drink all you want, even sleep with your warm blanket you took with you. Sparky this is your new home boy, welcome to the rainbow bridge where all pets are welcome”.
