Not Enough

He told me that I wasn't pretty enough

So that night, I ate only an orchid flower.
He told me that I wasn't elegant enough
So that afternoon, I walked on my tiptoes until my legs hurt.
He told me that I wasn't quick enough
So that morning, I ran my fastest mile.
He told me that I wasn't sweet enough
So that night, I only drank water with organic honey in it.
He told me that I wasn't smart enough
So that evening, I ate a page from the oldest book that I could find.
He told me that I wasn't kind enough
So that morning, I gave my favorite necklace to a lady I saw walking on the street.
He told me that I wasn't tough enough
So that afternoon, I punched my wall and did not bandage my bleeding fist.
He told me that I wasn't strong enough
So that night, I uprooted my favorite tree in my garden.
He told me that I wasn't enough
And I believed him.
