Night

The sun is bright

A glowing orb that touches your skin with a warm kiss

I bask in the comfort it brings

Embracing the arms of light wrapped around me

Around every corner I can see

The light reveals the beauty of the day

The city and its people awaken

I see every movement, laughter, and tear

I know when the street lights change

I can see the cars come and go

Soon the candle burns out

The blazing wood of the cozy fireplace turns to ash

The wick that once held light was gone

And the stranger did not know what the ash once was

I stood still in the darkness, frozen

The abyss surrounded me

And a strange spirit gravitated towards me

Dread running up my spine

Open to the obscurist that fed in the night

I did not know when the unknown creature would come

Foot by foot I walked forwards

Not knowing if I was moving backwards

I looked behind me like a blind man

I was not going to be saved by warm arms of the sun

And so I sat down

The ground felt familiar

The same grass that covered the playground

I thought the grass was green

And so I saw that it was green

I soon began to picture the red slide and the metal swings

The families that gathered around the monkey bars

The monsters that I felt but never did see

Disappeared like morning fog

I was surrounded in darkness

But in my mind

I was not
