A Nation In Progress

Sat, 03/18/2017 - 20:13 -- JohnED

For my country, my heart swells with pride;

The land where my rights are upheld, and never denied.

But I must confess,

Our country is a constant work in progress.

To me it’s a shrouded mystery,

How we were so cruel to others throughout our history.

But I am proud to say the movement for improvement,

Was a huge undertaking kicked off by muckraking.

There came all this reforming,

And with the Jazz Age, we welcomed minorities performing.

Let’s continue to accept one another,

We should love everyone like a sister or brother.

Today we should come together,

And keep pushing to make things better.

We won’t stop until everyone has a place to call home,

And we can all band up so no one feels alone.

Everyone deserves to be heard,

Let them stand up and we’ll listen to their words.

For in this nation indivisible,

Not a sole should be invisible!
