My OWN Voice

Get me a damn paper
Spill my heart out on the page
Such a small girl with a big voice
And a heart that's filled with rage

"You should be like her,
Why don't you just try?"

I am not made of cheap glitter
I shine through the Son

"To get started you must leave your old life
All you need, all you need to do is try"

Try what? Leave everything behind?
To squeeze into that tight shoe
That will never be my size?

"But you must! You must!
If you want to be recognized."
I'll be recognized you see
But only when it's my time

So many people want it easy
Success without the pain
But in the end when you've got it all
Is there anything you've gained?

I'd rather gain respect
Than all the money, that's for sure
Because some people have so much money
And yet they're still so poor

I'm happy with who God's made me
And I look forward to His plans to come
And I'm not afraid of my future
Because in Him I put my trust
