A barren wasteland without thrum of foot traffic
And screams of emergency sirens.
Even grass does not grow through cracks in the sidewalk
Like it does at home, miles away;
Instead of flowers, words bloom on the concrete.
Messages and friends wait in unexpected places,
Even friends we never meet.
