A Man's "Best Friend"

He sits alone in the dark, cold night in the rain

Afraid of what lies inside

Afraid of the pain

Kissed by a fist instead of your lips

He is so innocent, undeserving of your hits

He wears his scars on his heart

His life has become tragic, not a work of art

Can’t you see the sadness in his eyes?

Is it not enough for you when he whimpers and cries?

Beaten and bruised

What did he do to deserve to be abused?

His hurt shouldn’t go unnoticed

I refuse to leave him there broken and alone

I vow to help him before he’s reduced to skin and bone
