Lived Long Enough

I've lived long enough to know how it goes

That lovable feeling, keeping me on my toes

I've lived long enough to tell you how it ends

The infamous "we can still be friends"

But what I can't tell you is why

The sharp pain of tears I cry

Like the harmful words surrounding me

The black and blue so hard to see

It's hard to hold my head up high

When all I'm used to is 'goodbye'

But I do it anyway because I am strong

Though my heart is still torn and it's been so long

I fought this war and man I tried

The scars are everlasting and do not hide

I've lived long enough to know how it goes

My heart is healing and my heart still woes

I've lived long enough to know how it ends

And sooner or later I'll make amends
